Enter Scores for a Performance Based Assessment

Once a Performance Based Assessment has been created and published, the students’ test scores can be entered. This article will review how to enter students’ scores for a Performance Based Assessment.

Visit Navigate to Entering Scores for Assessments to review how to navigate to the scoring feature.

Where to Start:

After navigating to the Manage Assessments module, locate the Performance Based assessment you would like to enter scores for and click the Performance Based Scoring button, to the right of the assessment name, under the Functions column to open the Performance Based Scoring screen.

Assessment Name, Subject and School Year.
Notice to periodically save work when entering scores. This is critical in order to avoid losing data if timed out.
Search by Period to enter student scores for each class roster. Click Refresh after making your selection.
Total number of students on the selected roster.
Scoring grid as set up by the assessment creator with objectives (sub-scores).
Save Use often! Scores will be automatically added to the reports for this assessment.

Entering Scores

The scoring grid functions like a spreadsheet. Click inside the target cell to enter a score for each objective for each student.
The Overall and % Correct will be automatically calculated if each objective has the same Score Label (e.g., Raw Score) and the Score Type is Numeric.

The Performance Based Scoring screen has an Auto Save feature that saves data entered onscreen in 2 minute intervals. However, users are still strongly encouraged to frequently click the green Save button while entering scores, particularly if the Performance Based assessment contains several columns and fields for manual score entry. The action of clicking the Save button refreshes an idle browser page.

Depending on browser and local network settings, users may experience a browser timeout if the Performance Based Scoring screen is not refreshed after 30 minutes. If this happens, when a user returns to the page and begins entering scores again, they will not be alerted to the fact the webpage has timed out until the next time they click Save or Next at which point they will be kicked out of their session, returned to the login screen and any data entered onscreen after the page timeout will be lost.

Users should not have multiple tabs of the application open in the same browser. Doing so can cause occasional issues with the way pages render as a result of browser cache and cookies, and increases the likelihood of data entry errors.

Editing Scores

If you make an error when entering scores, click inside the cell to edit or delete.
Cells/columns/rows you are working in are highlighted in yellow.
All other cells are white.
The Overall and % Correct columns are highlighted in gray.

Entering an Invalid Score

If a score is entered that is not within the appropriate range or type as set by the assessment creator, the cell will be highlighted in red.
A message will appear with the valid range of scores to be entered. Delete the invalid score and enter a valid one.
