Speech to Text is a tool for online testing that can be enabled for students as an accommodation. This tool allows students to use a device with a microphone to input speech into the CKEditor, which produces a text output. Speech to Text is offered for English, French, and Spanish, and is only available for use with Constructed Response and Writing Prompt items.
Enable Speech to Text
Speech to Text is an accommodation option, and is not available as a global online tool. It is not listed in online settings at the assessment or item level.
Speech to Text can be enabled for a student via student accommodation profiles, which can be accessed through the Class Roster report, the Student History report, or Online Administration. To learn more about creating and editing accommodation profiles for students, take a look at Create & Manage Accommodation Profiles.
Because Speech to Text is an accommodation, students will always have access to the tool as it is set up in their accommodation profile. Access to the Speech to Text tool cannot be overridden at the item or assessment level, and must be altered within the accommodation profile to remove access.
Student View
The Speech to Text tool is only available to use on online Item Bank assessment administrations for Constructed Response and Writing Prompt items. Students given the Speech to Text accommodation will only have access to the tool within the CKEditor response window for Constructed Response and Writing Prompt items.
